Mayhem Monday: My baby’s turning 1!

As of this moment, I am over halfway done the first part of this elimination diet. Praise the Lord! I feel better. Not great but not as exhausted and perhaps a little hopeful. I still have a long road before I can introduce the foods that I love back into my diet (sorry potatoes…you have to wait a little bit longer. But take heart, our reunion is going to be utter bliss!), but at least by this time next week, I’ll have more options to choose from.

I’ve also survived on no coffee for the same amount of time. I’m pretty amazed. I only have one cup a day so withdrawal wasn’t going to be a problem but it’s the ritual of a nice hot cup of coffee that I miss. Hot water with lemon…not quite tugging at my heart strings. But I’m surviving.

This week is my baby girl’s birthday. I canNOT believe she is turning 1. Unreal. This year flew by and I feel like the last 6 months went especially fast. It’s a very bittersweet moment for us because we’re going to have a toddler soon and the baby years will be behind us forever. It’s kind of blowing my mind that the door of this season is starting to close. Somebody hold me…

We have a couple of family parties for her this week. The first was yesterday and I made a cake and attempted to decorate it myself. I am most definitely not any kind of pinterest queen and this cake proved it. Though it photographed a bit better, up close…it was tragic. Thankfully, everyone liked how it tasted so I still came out a winner. It was killing me not to be able to have a piece and I was soooooooo tempted to just have a bite. But a bite would lead to me snapping like a twig and devouring the whole cake. It’s a good thing I’m a pillar of self-control.

I also signed up for a fall 10k. Yahoo! I figure I need the motivation and the time to train for this. I can run the distance but I don’t know that I can run it well. I also don’t know how it’s going to look to train for this because our schedule is all over the place. It looks like I may only get out for one run a week and will have to add in the treadmill for the rest. Thankfully, I have until October to figure this all out. I’m excited! I’m also eye-balling a half marathon for next year. It’s been two years now since I ran my last one and I’m missing the challenge of it. But I’m going to stay non-committal until I know how much I’ll actually run this winter. I’ve been known to…well…not run in the cold :)

Have a great week everyone!

Mayhem Monday: Revenge of the Glute Fairy

Welp…my first post-baby race is in the books. It didn’t go quite as planned but that’s not always a bad thing. All in all, it was a fantastic day. I had a lot of fun and aside from being undertrained, plagued with a couple of side stitches before I hit mile 1 (seriously body????) and… Continue Reading

Manitoba Marathon Relay: Race Recap

This marathon relay was one of those things that seemed like an OK idea at the time and gradually became a “I’m going to regret this, aren’t I?” thing as the weeks leading up to race day approached. We didn’t have a 6th runner to use as an alternate, I was feeling much less pregnant… Continue Reading

Fargo Marathon Recap: My first pregnant 10k race

Up until about a month ago, I had no intentions of racing this year. After all, when you can barely maintain a 10:30/mile pace at your best, racing is a term used somewhat loosely. Add some serious baby belly action to the mix and I had resolved that running is fun and fun was going… Continue Reading

Wild Hog Race Recap: My best, worst run

Wet. Slow. Awesome. That’s how I would sum up this past weekend’s Wild Hog 10k. I could very easily say it was cold, disappointing and discouraging because I could train to race it but running is about so much more than PR’s and course domination. Running is fun. Running is a privilege that, even though… Continue Reading
