Mayhem Monday: This doesn’t look like Kansas anymore

Happy Monday! We survived to see another week! Or should I say weekend….our weekend was wild. We had some seriously eerie storms that took our power out for most of Sunday. It was strange having a different kind of quiet in the house. No random little noises of the fridge, air conditioner, electronics. It was kind of serene in an “I hope all our food doesn’t spoil” kind of way. Thankfully, we eventually got back up and running in the evening but not before I was able to light a few candles and spend some quiet time working on a study by Jennie Allen that I’ve been plugging away at over the course of the summer. If you want a soul crushing, heart-opening, mind-reflecting bible study, go grab yourself a copy of “Anything”. It will wreck you.

Journaling by the candlelight. Beautiful.

The weather also meant that my small group of hill running buddies decided to cancel our first session together figuring it wasn’t the safest to head out and risk sliding down the hill…or blowing away. Hopefully next week. And though I planned to go for a jaunt on the treadmill to make up for my canceled run, I was quickly reminded that one requires electricity to operate a treadmill. And a kettle. And a washing machine. And a stove. The list goes on and boy was I embarrassed at how much I rely on electricity without giving it a second thought.

I also got a hair cut. This is about as monumental as it gets in this house. I had less children the last time I got my hair cut. To put into perspective, my youngest will be a year old in a few weeks. Yeah…my hair was quite a disaster. I’m pretty sure that gal that cut it probably barfed in her mouth a bit at the horrid state of my not-so-flowing mane (and I probably had some kind of baby spit or half chewed food hiding in there…not helping matters). I can’t say that I blame her. Thankfully, she prettied me up very nicely!

New hair and curls I will never be able to replicate...

So today is a bit of a make-up day. My soup is simmering, my laundry is washing and somehow, I will drag my tired rear end over to the treadmill while the Little Lady sleeps. Take that Monday!

This week will be a bit of a free-for-all. We’re quickly approaching the end of summer (wah!) and I want to soak in as much time with my kiddos as I can. The fall is going to be crazy good. So much change is on the horizon but it’s all so cool. I’m excited and a bit overwhelmed at the magnitude that life has changed over the last few months. It’s all been good, some of it great but change is always a bit of a roller coaster and this fall promises to be no different. That said, I’ll be taking it kind of easy this week. I’ve been feeling really fatigued and achy the last few days which is usually a sign that I need to slow down a bit and let my body recharge. Good thing it’s recovery week at the gym!! Now if only my kids would get the memo…

Have a great week everyone!
