I have to start by saying that to all my fellow runners who brave the heat and humidity of summer for more than 2-3 months of the year…you’re my hero. Seriously. I love you all and your resilience to running countless miles while slowly melting into the pavement beneath your feet.
I…am a hot weather running baby. I don’t enjoy it. I don’t thrive in it and truth be told, I’d rather run in the cold. Humidity and me are not friends. And not just because of the big hair humidity gives me. I have yet to discover the magic to fueling and pre-fueling during this type of weather that doesn’t leave me feeling like a limp noodle, slugging along and checking every 5 minutes to see if my face has melted off by body. Is this what it’s like for everyone? Egad.
Ok, that’s enough of that. Last week was brutally humid but I did get outside for Spartan hill training and a 4 mile trail run. Both were super hard to get through but both also left me feeling pretty awesome after. No aches, no pains and no strains. All signs point to thumbs up on that front. All signs also point to my needing to get out to run earlier than 8am if I want to enjoy some cooler morning air.
Last week was also full of parent challenges with my 3 year old. He is breaking me. Defiant, oppositional and downright snotty when he’s asked to do something he knows he should be doing or to stop doing something he knows he shouldn’t be doing. Like tormenting his older brother. My goodness but my hair was pulled out in clumps last week. We definitely go through these phases where he tests us and pushes the boundaries but this last week definitely took the gold for out and out bad behaviour bomb. I’m seriously hoping for a better week this week or I just might grind my teeth down to the gum line.
