Mayhem Monday

Happy Monday! First off, a BIG congratulations to everyone who ran the local Marathon, half marathon 10k, relay, fun run yesterday! This is the first year in a long time that neither the hubby nor myself have participated. It felt kind of strange to not be getting up at 5am to get to the festivities. I’ll admit, I was a little sad to miss it this year but I know it will be back next year. At least it meant a bit of extra sleep in the morning which is always welcome.

Our weekend was pretty low key. The kids made homemade cards and I did a mini photo-shoot of the kids earlier in the week as a gift for my hubby. Easy, cheap and hopefully meaningful for him. Unfortunately, the pictures weren’t ready in time for Father’s day (apparently my knack for procrastination with picture development extends further than just Christmas cards), but they should be ready this week. It’s the thought that counts, right?

On Father's day, we bring out the fancy feeding troughs.

Last week was crazy! Between soccer, volunteering at our church’s food bank for a night (super awesome night!), Spartan training, a kettle bell class and a fun run with friends, I was out more than I was in. I feel like such a party animal….if party animals liked working out and going to bed before 10pm. Don’t judge my wild lifestyle, I’m calming down in my advancing years.

Speaking of running. I’m still dealing with my ridiculous calf issues. In fact, they seized up so badly on Thursday’s run that I couldn’t press the parking brake on my van when I got home, it hurt so much. They didn’t feel too bad while I was running but as soon as I stopped…yowza. To give them an extra rest, I opted not to go for my run on Sunday. I was looking forward to running the trail again but I figure it wasn’t worth not being able to move the rest of the day. I may be relegated to the treadmill until I can figure out how to control the tightness. I know the cause, I just need to find the balance.

This week we bid adieu to my oldest’s soccer season. Wednesday is his last game for the season which will free up a couple of nights again. It also means one very exciting thing: ice cream! We like to end all good things with ice cream. You’d think I’d do more good things…

Otherwise, we have some stuff going on in the background here that are taking up a lot of mental energy and priority right now. The main focus for this week is family and prayer. Whatever else happens in the midst of it is icing.

Have a great week everyone!
