Happy Monday everyone! As I’m looking outside, it is dark and dreary so I hope that some of you are experiencing some sunshine to start your week off!
We had a monumental occasion here over the weekend: We got rid of cable. Now, this is nothing new, we’ve gone cable-free before but this was the first time we’ve done it while I’ve been home with the kids every day. We decided to finally jump on the Netflix bandwagon (we’re always a few dozen steps behind the times here) and so far, I LOVE it! I’m not a huge TV watcher and neither is hubby but he loves his sports and I love having some distraction for the kids (that’s right…I let my kids watch TV…<gasp!>) so I can get things done around the house. Now we have a bit more control over what they watch and we have some movies and shows we can watch here and there when the mood strikes. Suddenly, everything old is new to me. We’ll see how long we decide to keep it. I know I’m fine with it but hubby loves his sports so when hockey and basketball start up again in the fall, we may have a battle on our hands (as it is, he’s looking for friends to invite him over to watch the finals in both )
Last week we had some outdoor adventures. My oldest went on his first drop-off birthday party. It was kind of strange sending him along and not going with him. But he had a BLAST and has another drop-off party this week. I feel so bad for Mr. O. because now there are times when A. gets to go play with his friends and he doesn’t get to tag along. He was pretty heartbroken on the weekend but then he got some extra time to spend with his dad at the park so I think that made up for it a bit. It’s also made me realize that he doesn’t have too many kids his own age to play with right now.
I also decided to run on a trail this weekend for the first time. I knew this little path was there but I didn’t realize how long it was. I thought it was maybe half a mile or so but running the entire trail ended up being about 3.5 miles. It was soooooo lovely to be out there. Even though it’s not a secluded trail (you run past a lot of houses and across some streets as the path weaves in and out), it was still peaceful. And with the number of bugs out in full force, it kept me motivated to keep a steady pace so as not to get eaten alive! I will definitely be running that trail on a more regular basis.
Speaking of running, now that I’ve realized that my heel strike was atrocious (my goodness, no wonder my knees were always sore), I’ve been gradually switching to a mid-foot strike. And though my feet and knees are pretty happy with the change, my calves are most definitely not. They are sooooooo tight and I haven’t been able to loosen them up, especially my right leg, where I already have some serious quad stretching to do from running hills on Tuesdays. Any tips? I’m basically falling apart. I have a roll of KT tape, maybe I should learn how to use it. And get a massage. Maybe two.
This week, the little lady has her 9 month check up (gah!! 9 months!!!). Otherwise, our week is fairly open. Hopefully we get some sunshine so we can head outside to the parks!
