Fukumoto Friday: Week 30

Things I can now cross off my list of things I never thought I’d do: run up a big hill dragging  tire behind me. On purpose. I’m not going to say I particularly enjoyed it (shocking since I tend to enjoy most things, I know) but I loved the challenge! It seriously felt like I wasn’t going anywhere. But since I made it to the top of the hill each time, I obviously was. Definitely a worthwhile challenge for week 2 of obstacle course training.

I can definitely feel how much stronger I am in doing this training. I’ve run hills before but have always struggled. Not that these drills are easy by any stretch because they are most certainly hard but my legs feel so strong and able to carry me to the top each time with relative ease and my lungs are never burning and I feel like I can catch my breath by the time I get back to the bottom. I have yet to feel like “I can’t possibly do one more”. If anything, I feel like I have more in the tank when we’re done.

Or maybe I’m delusional and hallucinating by the end. That’s also pretty likely. Especially after having a dream about running up an indoor hill, made of artificial turf and then wandering aimlessly trying to find my car. And my kids apparently. Some of my dreams warrant further interpretation. This is not one of them.

Other than that, the week has been great. Recovery week next week. With a bunch of changes in my schedule this phase, I was in and out of workouts so I didn’t get a chance to do any single one 4 times. My type A brain may have hyperventilated a bit. But I did hit some cool milestones. Unassisted pistols on my left leg being the big one. My right leg has a ways to go but I’m getting there.

My next challenge is to work on one of my original goals when I started this journey, which is to do a chin-up! I have a lot of work to do and no bar at home to use so I’ll be attempting to do them at the park with my kids.
