Mayhem Monday: Winding Down

Hard to believe a week ago, I was lamenting about our recent snow fall and this past weekend, we were baking in the near-30 degee Celcius heat. May has been nothing, if not unpredictable. But it’s been enjoyable.

Last week was a bit off the radar. I find short weeks always throw off our rhythm a bit because I spend half the week trying to figure out what day it is.Tell me I’m not alone in that.

I finally managed to sneak out for a morning run on Sunday as well. I haven’t run since the relay two weeks ago because I woke up with strange foot pain that I suspect is plantar fasciitis. It was mild but “there” so I opted to rest it and not get it checked out just yet. I am still aware of it but it’s definitely settled and never did I experience swelling, severe pain or heat in my foot. I’ve been rolling it daily and really just taking it day by day. Overall, it feels good and it didn’t bother me at all while running so I think as long as I pay attention and don’t try to push through anything, I’ll be fine.

I cannot tell you how much I’ve missed running in the morning. With both my boys, breastfeeding was such a challenge and I felt like I was constantly fighting my body. In the end, they both weaned very early and I had to start supplementing with formula. This was devastating for me but at the same time, it also allowed me the freedom to run when I needed to. I’m having much more success nursing the Little Lady and so my desire to run in the mornings has been set on the backburner as we still don’t have any kind of regular schedule. Some days, she’s up for the day at 4am, other days 7am. On Sunday, it worked out perfectly that I could get out and go for a short 3.5 mile run before it got too hot. It was delightful. I love the crisp morning air and the rising sun. Nothing beats that.

Basking in the glow of the morning.

This week I’m hoping to get in a couple of short runs. I don’t have a particular race that I’m training for at the moment so I’m just going to run for the love of running and see how my body feels. I think I’ll likely do something in the fall but rather than book a hundred things in advance, I’m going to see where my body, mind and schedule take me….and my dollars…because I have very few of those lying around these days…

Have a great week everyone!!
