Fukumoto Friday: Week 25

And just like that…6 months gone by. Halfway (almost) to one year. Crazy! Hard to believe that I’ve been on this road for 6 months. I don’t think I would believe that time has gone by that quickly except that my daughter, who was barely 2 months old, sleeping only a few hours at a time, and completely dependent on me for everything is now sitting, laughing, grabbing, pinching (ouch) and really showing us the colours of her personality.

This week also marks the end of our latest phase of body building. My word, I don’t think my body has ever needed so much rolling in my life. I have been humbled by the Glute Fairy every single week and even as I sit here writing this the morning after my 4th workout of Bulgarian split squats, the glute fairy is still sprinkling some of that magical dust on me. Thankfully, it’s just a bit of ache and not the kind that leaves you wincing every time you sit down on the toilet (hello week 1!).

Overall, I LOVED this phase. I think it was my favorite so far. I loved the challenge of it and how each workout made me dig really deep to get to that place that I needed to go to power my way through each workout. Not a single one ever got easier but I know I got stronger. My pushups are stronger (though I didn’t quite get to all sets unassisted but I did get through nearly 3 by the last week which is nearly 3 more than I could do just a couple of short months ago), my burpees are getting easier and I’m able to add some fanciness to them (hello pushups, jumps and a general feeling of not-dying at the end of each round). Most importantly, I was able to really feel where my body was moving and recognize when form was on and when it was off. That’s kind of a big deal for me. Really…it should be a big deal for anyone who wants to train safely.

Next week brings about recovery week. But not much recovering to be had as I’m planning to start my charity burpees on Monday and will try to get through them all next week. Stay tuned! I’ll also use next week’s update to really reflect on the last 6 months overall for me. Believe me when I say that 6-8 months ago, I wouldn’t have thought in a MILLION years I’d be anywhere close to wear I am currently sitting. It’s beyond cool and awesome even though I have no clue where the next 6 months will leave me!
