Fukumoto Friday: Week 21

Oh recovery week. You have been kind to me. I love learning new skills and improving existing ones. I like that there is a day where you can go in and be taught rather than simply shown on workout day. Why people intentionally skip these days is beyond me because I think there is so much value in it. But at the same time, I’m a bit of a geek about stuff like this so perhaps it’s me that’s the outlier in this case.

I finished the phase strong and met my goals of doing all my pushups unassisted (we won’t talk about the quality of the last few too much. Go Google technical failure and you’ll know where I ended) and got that dang strength sandbag over my head without dropping it. I think I finally got the hang of balancing it on my fists. Boom go the goals!

I also finally got in for my Functional Movement Re-Screen. I’d previously redone my trunk stability pushup to clear any pushup restrictions in the workout but had yet to have a full screen redone. Thankfully, I improved in some areas and don’t have any movement restrictions but I have some stuff I need to work on to improve over the next few months.

This next phase, I’ve decided to add in a 3rd workout at the warehouse for the next 4 weeks. I’m not quite ready to disclose the exact reason behind it but it’s for the greater good. So for the next 4 weeks, I’ll be there Tues/Thurs/Sat. It’s going to be awesome and probably a bit painful too. But I’m stoked for it.

I’ve also signed up for a Kettlebell course that I’m super excited about. It’s just a 3 hour instructional but I’m excited to learn some other ways to use the Kettlebell and to hopefully perfect my swing (which is much improved, but still kind of nasty). That’s in a couple of weeks.

Next week, once I know what our workouts will look like, I’ll fill you in on my goals for the phase. I’m told there will be lots of opportunity to perfect my pushup form. Eep.

  1. I love that half-ass quote. 😀 (It reminds me of one that’s up at the office in the hospital–“Whatever you do, always give 100%. Unless you’re donating blood.”)

  2. I love recovery weeks. I enjoy them to their fullest to let my body truly recover before pushing hard again. I need to get started with kettle bell. I won a class and really need to go do it.

  3. I love recovery week after weeks of super hard workouts. I would definitely like to incorporate more kettlebells into my weights routine so will be curious to hear about your class!
