Body After Baby: 16 week update

And just as we are about to turn the calendar’s over to 2015, another 4 weeks have passed me by. And with those 4 weeks have come birthdays, hockey games, Christmas celebrations and lots of running around. I, for one, am looking forward to taking a few days to kick my feet up and relax.

With these last 4 weeks, I’ve completed a month at my gym, been slacking a bit on my MAF training (gurr) and most definitely have indulged in some holiday treats! I feel good and with every passing week, I feel more and more comfortable in the (excess) skin that I’m in. I still struggle with patience and knowing that everything is a process and getting back to pre-baby shape takes time even though I was active throughout my pregnancy. I’ll get there. I know I will. I catch myself sometimes thinking “why in the heck is it taking so long?!” and then I have to punch myself in the head remember that 16 weeks isn’t a super long time. Sometimes I feels like it but in the grand scheme of things, it’s not.

I’ve been doing really well with my Mutu exercises. A little slacking over the last week or so but there has definitely been a lot of progress with my core in doing that program. With both my last two babies, I couldn’t do a push-up hold without all my insides hanging out and looking (and feeling) horrible. This was my reality even at close to a year postpartum. Doing the Mutu and really focusing on the core work at the gym and I can not only do that hold with relative ease (though not for a long period of time yet), nothing comes spilling through. My core feels strong, my diastasis is 1-1.5 fingers wide (the smallest the gap has EVER been) AND I can actually feel the connective tissue in the gap. I’m so happy with that. Mutu was not exactly cheap but it was worth every penny spent. I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend it. It’s a solid program. Baby-wise, I’m super happy to report that breastfeeding is still going amazingly well. With both boys, by the 3 month mark, I was struggling so much with supply and the stress of that but so far, the little lady is doing great! It almost makes me want to do a big “needer needer” dance to those who said I’d struggle with nursing because I wouldn’t produce enough milk on a plant-based diet. My 15lb baby girl says otherwise (yep…she’s a tank but so lovely and squishy and smiley!)

I think I would sum up everything by saying that I’m not in the shape I would like to be yet, but I’m in the best shape I’ve been in, in a long time. Mentally and physically.

    (But for reference, when will we be able to fit into old jeans again?)

  2. It took A LOT longer for me to lose the weight and get my fitness back after baby #2. But it happened. Hang in there mama! You are doing great!
