Mayhem Monday: Day Dates, Tummy Issues and (another) Blizzard

Happy St. Patty’s day! No green beer for this Mama this year. I woke up with a flaming tummy today. Mis-er-a-ble. I think it has something to do with dinner out last night. My IL’s had gift cards to the Keg they needed to use so we all went there. Being that it’s a steak house, the vegetarian options (or should I say, option) wasn’t great. The waitress described it to me because it wasn’t on the menu and it was basically veggies, noodles in sauce. Mmmmmk. Turns out the sauce was about 2 cups of chili sauce with a cup of hot sauce thrown in for good measure. Holy cow. I tried to eat it but all I could taste was fire. And I’ve been tasting fire ever since. I managed to get the kids to daycare so I could get back home to bed with an IV drip of tums and gravol but also manged to get the car stuck in the driveway because we had another blizzard last night and after a couple of days of warmer temps, we have ice all over our driveway. Sigh. Methinks the luck of the Irish is not shining on this European mutt this year.

Otherwise, I had a fabulous weekend. The highlight was going on a day date with my 4 year old. Something we haven’t done in a very, very long time. I’ve been noticing that he’s been going through a real behaviour shift the last week or two. Part of it was the time change (who would think that one little hour could throw you off so much?!) but part of it was that he was just plain acting out, throwing temper tantrums on a daily basis. This is very unusual for him. I ended up staying home from our Thursday bible study because we grounded him and canceled his favorite babysitter. Broke my heart but it needed to be done. As we sat and hung out that night I just kept getting a nudge that he was needing something from me that I wasn’t giving him: special time together. It became very clear to me that we needed time, just the two of us so I made the decision (which was not overly popular with my hubby) that he and I were going to go on a date Saturday morning and do something fun. Just the two of us. We settled on brunch at a restaurant. He was so excited and that just warmed my heart. We had a lovely time together. It’s already become one of my favorite memories with him.

Mulling over his choices.

I love that you get the entire carafe. They know the way to my heart.

I've never in my life seen his eyes get so big as they did when he saw his meal. Seriously though...this is a kids meal and I don't even think I could have eaten it all. Egad!

My meal on the other hand... Stopped shy of licking the plate.

Sunday, as per usual, was meal prep day. No details for you as the thought of food is very painful right now. Maybe another day. Jut know that I made some very tasty food and as soon as my stomach stops churning, I plan on stuffing large amounts of it into my face.

For now, it’s back to bed for this wounded fawn. Hoping you all have a splendid Monday and for all my local readers, please stay safe out there!
