Mayhem Monday: Cold weather and a day date with my love

Well hello March. Glad you decided to stop in. Too bad you didn’t bring Spring-like weather with you. My only consolation to the deep freeze (-50C with wind) weather is that there are places in Canada that have been colder. Not sure how that’s possible but alas, this is winter.

Last week, I managed 2 short runs with no pain. First time running twice in a week in a very long time. Still only running 15 minutes total per run but I’m okay with slow, gradual progression if it means no pain and no setbacks. I a sense, the long, cold winter has been a blessing because I have no desire to be running outside in this and it’s usually the pavement that gets me into trouble because I just want to go forever and not stop.

Gotta keep rolling!

Hubby and I also got to enjoy a short little day-date on Saturday. A rarity. Sadly, we didn’t do anything exciting: we ran errands. BUT we got to do them together and hang out sans kids for a couple of hours. Which means we enjoyed adult conversation and avoided having to deal with melt-downs, spilled sippy cups, complaining and general unhappiness while we navigated the cold city. It’s the small things sometimes.

This week, I will try for 2 runs again. Work has been super crazy lately but I think this week will be the week things settle down some and I don’t end up working through lunches and/or staying late to keep on top of everything. I’m still not increasing my run/walk times. If I can run pain-free twice a week for a few weeks, then I’ll gradually increase the run times but I really don’t want to risk a set-back when it feels like I’m finally making some forward progress.

This may have happened thanks to my wonderful friend Michelle who brought me back some TJ's cookie butter after her trip to NYC.

Have a great week everyone and stay tuned!! I have some exciting stuff coming up that I can’t wait to tell you about over the coming weeks! Yihaw!

  1. YAHOO for your short runs! Smart move not to push it so that you heal! :) Glad you got time away with hubby & you – even errands – a good thing! Hope work slows down!!

I’m definitely happy just to be running at all. As much as I’d love to be running more/longer, I know better. I’ve actually come across a few people with the same injury who have said it takes forever to heal so I feel better knowing that it’s not just me :)

  2. Big big hugs!b I’m happy to see that you’re running again, yay!

Ugh, I hate winter too, even if it isn’t freezing, there’s still the regular rain making everything muddy and impossible to deal with – I really prefer working out outside in the open over any sort of gym activities. It’s great that you’re finding your little ways to deal with it all and still get some workout.
For me, the most inspiring bloggers are fitness moms – there’s something about women that choose to procreate and still make a choice to commit to themselves, too.
Hope you’re having a great week!
