Yesterday, after a week of doing nothing but nursing a sore knee and a boo-hoo attitude, I pulled up my big girl panties and got myself back into a routine. My knee was feeling much better and I felt like I could actually do some cross-training without having to worry about tweaking it. Last week, it was all out of the question. Even lifting and carrying my kids bothered it so full rest it was. And as much as I grumbled and crabbed about it, it was the best thing for me. I didn’t push myself (though I really wanted to), I didn’t go against strict orders from my physiotherapist about running (I may have put my Garmin on…just to make sure it still fit…) and I didn’t do anything reckless (though I did buy myself a Polar…so maybe I was a bit reckless).
The reward for my good behavior? An impressed physio and instruction to bring my runners to my next treatment on Friday because if the next few days goes well, I will get to *gasp* run on the treadmill for a few minutes!
*squeeeeeeeee*!! (it really is the little things)
In the meantime, I was given the green light on Saturday to start light cross training on the bike and elliptical as long as there was no pain and upper body strength training so long as there’s no strain. So I did 15 minutes on the recumbent bike and the upper body portion of my training plan which tricked me into doing 90 push-ups! 6 sets of 15 to be more precise. Well played coach Heather…well played. I could barely change and shower after that so I’m expecting a little stiffness as the day goes on.
Today I’m going to tackle the elliptical and hope for the best.
What’s your plan for today?
