Well I’m happy to say that I survived day one of work. My brain was in serious mush-mode by the time the quitting bell sounded but I’m confident that it will eventually hurt less to think that much. I have a lot of catching up to do but things are slowly coming back to me.
What’s really awesome about being back at work is that it looks like there has been some positive change going on in the office to try and improve staff health. The first thing I noticed was that our coffee room is now snack and coffee machine free. We used to have a pop machine and candy machine plus a “fancy” coffee machine. They have been replaced with a microwave and a cooler for staff to put their lunches in. Very cool. It also seems like the cafeteria is making a gradual switch toward healthier food options. I don’t know how big a shift is going on because I pack my lunch every day but the fact that the effort is there is really awesome.
I also like that there’s a great gym there that I can work out at on my lunch. It’s guaranteed “me time” that I can sweat and recharge for the rest of my day. It’s so encouraging to see that the number of fitness classes offers has doubled in the year I’ve been off because the demand is there. These classes meet all fitness levels so anyone can get started on their fitness journey.
That’s not to say that I didn’t miss my kids because they were on my mind all day long. I couldn’t wait to jump in my car and drive to get them at the end of the day. Nothing beats the feel of your kids hugging and cuddling with you after a long day at work. I almost didn’t want to put them to bed because I wanted those snuggles to last just a bit longer.
I also took some time to do a survey on health and sport nutrition that I thought was pretty neat. It does take some time (about 10 minutes) but I really liked the questions asked and how it was looking to gauge the average person’s habits when it comes to fitness and fuel. I’m very curious to know the results. There’s also a $250 gift card on the line which is also a great incentive to participate. If you feel so inclined, head on over and take the survey and enter to win that gift card. Because free money is…well…free!
