Body After Baby: 9 Months In, 9 Months Out

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like the 9 month birthday is almost as big of a milestone as the first birthday. It officially marks the time when Baby O has been out in the world as long as he was in my belly. I don’t know why, but that thought really blows my mind. Especially when I think that when he was first born, he was completely helpless. All he could do was cry and move his arms and legs unintentionally. Now, he’s developing independence. He is still dependent on me for so many things but there are also a host of things he doesn’t need me to do anymore. He sits, he crawls, he feeds himself finger foods. He “talks” to me, smiles and laughs at me and isn’t afraid to let me know when he’s displeased.

Like I said…it blows my mind.

So where does that leave me these days? Well my running season is done until next year but I’m still running (though not as often as I should or would like to be). I’ve started back at the gym and have done the spin class there a couple of times and love it. I feel like I’m in a bit of a fitness rut because aside from having no scheduled races until May’s Fargo half marathon, I seem to constantly have sick kids that require my attention, hugs, and lots of nose wiping (ew!). I’m definitely in need of some motivation. I might sign up for a half marathon in February. The only thing that’s really holding me back is that I start back to work in February and I know that’s going to be an overwhelming transition. I’m doing my best to do some longer runs on the weekend to keep my running endurance going so that if I do decide to register, I can run it without keeling over.

Here is what I look like right now. I need to do a close up of my belly button. With the extra skin I sport as my proud post-baby badge of honour, my belly button looks like it’s frowning!

Mental note: wipe the mirror down before taking pictures next time!

Next update will be at 12 months! Ack! My baby will be a year old!!

    • I lost the weight about as fast but I didn’t get my body back as quickly. Going through postpartum depression the first time, I really didn’t snap out of it until my oldest was about 6 months old, maybe older. I did get to where I am now but it took about 15 months…and then I got pregnant again (oops!).

    • I didn’t lose the weight too quickly (well, the first 15 pounds came off pretty easily when the baby came out ;P) after that it was a steady loss of about 2 pounds per week on average, sometimes less. The real key for me this time was not gaining too much weight to begin with. I lost almost all of it through proper diet and the last little bit after I was cleared to resume exercising.
