After nearly 4 months of training for my half marathon, I was ready for a break. I wanted to let my legs rest, enjoy being lazy and have a nice cold beer. I didn’t want to worry about what I was eating, hydrating for a long run or making sure I got to bed early to get as decent a nights sleep as I could with a toddler and an 8 month old.
I told myself that after the half marathon, I was taking a break. I first said 2 weeks off completely but I figured that might be a bit unlikely. True enough…I lasted a week and I was so twitchy that I needed to do something before my head exploded (the massive kicking, screaming, flailing temper tantrum that Fit Boy threw at church only added fuel to that fire).
I hit the pavement for a nice, easy 5k run in my new Saucony Guide 6’s (stay tuned for more on those bad boys!). It was nice to just run. I still had the Garmin with me but I paid it no attention until I got back home. Bliss.
So what did I do on my week of if there was next to no running? I had fun, went on a date to the basketball game with my hubby, had my beer, made blueberry scones and took it easy(ish…I have kids after all).
For anyone who thinks fitness bloggers are all work(ing out) and no play, you couldn’t be more wrong! I stay on track most of the time but when I want to indulge, I do. I’m human and I work hard to crush my goals but I love a good treat as much as the next Fit Mom!
How do you unwind/celebrate a goal? Do you indulge? Relax? Or do you just keep moving toward the next goal?

Congrats on your half marathon! That’s a great accomplishment. I feel the same way after reaching a goal. Almost like needing a mental decompression and enjoying the simpler things in life. I think that looking forward to the relaxed mentality after a goal race is also part of what makes me work harder to reach a goal!
I’ve been relaxing since my 1/2 in March… Time for me to get back on it!
