How to Have Fun AND Document your Running Relay Experiences (and a #Swagnar Giveaway!)

Imagine this: You’re in a van with 5 other people. You’re driving through all kinds of conditions, terrain and weather for over 24 straight hours. Every so often, you get out of the van to stretch your legs the only way you know how:

You Run.

THIS is Ragnar. THIS is an epic journey where teams of 12 runners in 2 vans willingly take part in a massive relay spanning day and night. THIS is where strangers become friends, teamwork goes beyond cheering and hand-holding and body odor takes on an entirely new meaning.

I haven’t yet experienced a Ragnar relay but hope to in the near future. What I’ve read and heard from those that have is that the journey is an epic, once-in-a-lifetime couple of days that you never want to forget. Which begs the question:

How do you remember all the small details when you’ve barely slept, haven’t showered and are just trying to keep your strength up to finish your next leg of the race.

My Answer: Take pictures! Nothing documents your adventure better than a picture. It captures the good, the bad, the ugly but thankfully, not the smelly! These days, even your phone can capture pictures and video that you can download, upload and share with anyone you like instantly! And be sure to have fun with it! Capture those silly moments, the smiles and the tears.

Whether you’re running 5k or 50k, a picture can take you back to those moments in an instant! I know I like to have family or friends capture my run where ever they can on my route. Not only does it give a lasting memory, it also give them a chance to cheer me on which always helps me to carry on.

The turnaround point at my very first relay!

Pointing like a crazy lady to my hubby and oldest seconds before crossing the finish line at last weekends Half Marathon.

I can’t begin to tell you how stoked I was when Ragnar contacted me to ask me to take part in the their #swagnar virtual blogger relay series. 12 bloggers, 12 prize packs, 24 days. It’s as epic as a Ragnar race itself but with much better personal hygiene.

Just as I like to document my life, my races and my journey on this blog, I want you to be able to do the same in your life too! I’m so happy to announce that Ragnar will be providing one of you amazing people a Nikon Coolpix camera so that you can document your best (and possibly worst) moments to remember years down the road! And because this is the #swagnar relay, you only have 2 days to enter before I draw up a winner and pass the relay baton to Tim over at Beer Runner who will enlighten us all as to how to celebrate our running victories!

On your mark, get set….GO ENTER!! Good luck! Winner will be chosen randomly and their info forwarded to Ragnar who will get this little beauty in the mail to you in November!

Hello, Stephanie. I’m a new reader (and mom to 2 as well!). I usually document special events a combination of ways: photos, videos, and/or print. For example, my running logs are totally old-fashioned right now. I have a thick 3-ring binder and notebook paper. I stash everything other than the daily training logs in plastic sheaths–from race forms to bibs to course maps to product tags to medals. Pretty soon, I expect to outgrow the binder, though. The photos and videos are stored on the computer and/or permanent discs (e.g., CDR-type media or servers). Thanks so much!

  2. Rebecca says:

I love photos and blogging about the event.

  3. Photos are definitely the way to go. They take an instant to snap and usually can capture a lot in that second.

Lots and lots of pictures. Gotta do it!

  12. TEN says:

I like to get at least one photo from significant races. Last race, my boyfriend took some pictures before the start. These are great because they capture the day,

  13. Katie says:

I listen to music with my phone so I always have the phone with me for pictures too. I love having pictures of my adventures.

  26. Sherry says:

    WOW!
Because of Twitter I stumbled on you through a friend! Going to sit down and read all your blog after dinner if I still have power! Sandy keeps flickering our power all over the neighborhood! I know my neighbors have their fingers crossed too that we don’t lose power!

I never win anything but that’s ok I am a winner all the time! :) My flash broke on my camera and I have to hold it up when I take a pic! That’s ok too!

I just started walking again and I don’t understand running and what is so great about it! I guess I should try it again since I don’t have quadruple D boobs anymore to bounce up and down! (breast cancer years ago)

    Anyways…see ya soon!
    Sherry

  46. Tammy says:

I would love to win this compact, high quality camera. I always wish I had a camera on race day, but mine is too bulky / heavy to take. If you haven’t run a Ragnar Race, find one and do it. It is a blast!
