Before I start, let me just clarify, I didn’t run buck naked, I ran tech naked. Minds out of the gutter people! We good? Ok…moving on.
Yesterday was beautiful, probably the last day of warm weather we’ll see before the Spring. Sad but true. When hubby got home from work we decided to load the kids up in the Chariot and head to the park. I have to say, it’s sooooooo nice that Baby O is big enough to sit in the Chariot with his brother. I’m so thankful my brother and sister-in-law have let us use their Chariot for a few months. It’s a lifesaver!
As we loaded the boys up, I had a brilliant idea! I suggested that we take the long way to the park and run, pushing the jogger. Hubby was less than enthusiastic but reluctantly agreed. We grabbed our running gear and set out. The long way to the park is still less than 2 miles but pushing over 50lbs of boys made it quite the workout. We each took a turn and I was huffing and puffing by the time we got to the park. Hats off to you moms and dads that do this on a daily basis!
After some good playtime at the park, hubby declared we were not running home. So I decided to run home the long way while hubby took the short way walking with the boys.
Since our run was spur of the moment, I had no tech with me. No Garmin, no iPod, nothing. I now understand why runners feel naked. It was just me, the pavement and my thoughts.
It was pretty cool. I had time to think, listen to the sounds around me (geese in the man-made pond on one side, highway on the other) and really listen to my body. It was an exercise I plan on repeating again on short runs. I’ve always thought that there was no way I could ever run without tech, that I would go insane but it was quite liberating not worrying about pace, when a walk break was coming or how many more miles I had (not many on this run). It was running for the sake of running. I could definitely get used to this.
Just don’t ever ask me to run naked on the treadmill
Do you run naked?

Its funny how much we rely on technology…enough to notice the difference when its gone!
Congratulations on running tech naked for almost 2 miles back and forth! Our generation’s dependence on gadgets really makes it feel awkward not having them around. Since that day, were you able to follow-up on running without gadgets again?
