Motivation Monday: Attack of the Blisters

For the first time since Baby O was born (and possible a few months prior to that), I woke up Saturday morning with a strange sense about me. An odd feeling of alertness and the even stranger ability to get myself out of bed without falling over from exhaustion.

I felt…rested!

Cue the angels choir!

Not wanting to waste this precious moment (though in hindsight, I probably should have taken a picture of it for prosperity), I got myself dressed, fueled and out the door before my body realized that it was being tricked and sent be back to bed instead of out for my planned 16k run. It was not an easy run but I’ll get into that more later this week because I have a good story of inspiration that comes from my toughest run in a loooooooooooooooooong time.

My sweat looks like a big heart…or maybe it’s just my imagination.

16k Done!

The rest of the weekend was spent nursing some seriously blistered feet. Years of wearing stilettos followed by years of running (probably the two worst things you can do to your feet) have left some pretty impressive calluses on my big toes. When I’m doing a lot of running and my knees start to ache, my gait changes enough that I get deep blisters under the calluses. They are painful and when one of them rips off…well you get my poor feet.

Sore blistered feet…pre-explosion :(

My 10 mile race is in less than a week and I am really hoping to have something figured out so that I can run strong and not feel the pain I’m feeling right now in my poor toes. Anyone have suggestions? I’m all ears!

Do you suffer from blisters? How do you treat them?
