Motivation Monday: This one Goes out to the One I Love

How was your week? Did you meet your goals? Exceed any? Start working toward any new ones? I’d love to hear all about them!

This week marked the return of the heat that we’d gotten a brief break from. I was hoping to get out midday for my training runs to take advantage of some free babysitting but it was just too hot/sticky. Add in, Baby O is still not well. He’s finally over his cold but has been having some stomach issues and as a result was getting dehydrated which made for some long nights. Hoping the poor little bug rebounds this week. I’m missing his smiles and giggles.

The real test of living out my No Excuses lifestyle came Saturday morning. Baby O woke up at 4:30 in a lot of pain/discomfort in his tummy. It took hours to settle him and he eventually fell asleep on top of me. My plan had been to get out the door at 6:30 to run 14k. At 8:30, I still hadn’t gone and was beyond exhausted. Thankfully, my hubby, knowing me as well as he did told me to go and run and not to worry about doing the whole run but to get done what I could. So at 9am I finally set out with a full and alternate route planned out and communicated to my hubby (because what’s the point in preaching about running safety if I don’t follow my own tips!). At about 3km in, I had a choice to either turn around and do about 7km total or to take the turn that would lead me on the rest of my 14km route.

Check out that back sweat! Impressive no?

I opted to keep going. I wasn’t feeling strong, my legs felt weak and mentally, I wasn’t in the game but I kept telling myself that I could do this and I pushed on. At the halfway mark I was starting to feel a bit sick and turned back a bit short of my marked turn around time. I walked a bit, hydrated (thank you Nuun!) and made my way home. In the end, I was just half a km short of my intended distance.

So this one goes out to my hubby for encouraging me to get out and run when all I wanted to do was crawl under my covers and sleep the day away.

Oh…and thanks for the hour nap you let me sneak in later too :)
