Motivation Monday: Accidentally Hitting Rewind

After last week’s half asleep rambles about exhaustion due to a baby that refuses to sleep, I was determined in my Type-A, control freak kind of way to make this past week completely different. In my mind, Baby O would sleep 10 hours a night, nap 2 hours a couple of times during the day and Fit Boy would sleep in until 8am.

I don’t think you need me to tell you that things didn’t quite go that smoothly.

It was much the same actually. Baby O was up 4-5 times per night, Fit Boy was up (ready or not) no later than 6am most morning and by the middle of the week, I got sick. Not too surprising but more of an added frustration. Still, I managed to do a 4 mile run and some core work this week. I start half marathon training in a couple of weeks and I can already foresee some changes because I haven’t been able to get the distance base in that I need to start the plan. I’m not too worried because I’m running strong when I am able to get out and I’ve been taking care of me as best as I can to ensure I don’t get sicker than is necessary.

This week, the plan is 3 days of running and I am this close to securing a babysitter AND a date to go swimming. Fingers crossed! I am beyond excited to hit the pool!

This is perhaps not the most uplifting of musings but don’t worry, I am by no means down and certainly not out. I’ve enjoyed the cuddles and playtime with my boys this week and I know I’ll be back out running very soon. So I will leave you with 2 of the reasons I do what I do, how I do it, when I do it and even when I don’t think I can get it done:

The gene pool strongly favors cuteness in my family

Just keep hanging in there! Before you know it they’ll be off to kindergarten! I’m enjoying the sleep now that my kids are 8, 10 and 13, but know that in another year or so it will be back to sleepless nights (waiting for the oldest to get home!).

    Hope you’re feeling better Stephanie!

I remember those days all too well with getting very little sleep. It took my nine year old to reach age 4 to sleep through the night and my almost five year old, until 3 to sleep. They still wake up but nothing like a baby. Good luck!

Your kids are adorable. I remember not being able to sleep with my son that had acid reflux. That was so hard, so hugs for you.

  11. Those two are definitely worth it. Adorable!!!!! My daughter was a non-night sleeper. That was oh so fun.
