Body After Baby: Rain, Rain, Go Away!

I don’t know about your end of the world but mine has been full of rain nearly non-stop for the past 10 days. Good for my yard, not so good for my cooped up kiddos. We had one half day of sun on Saturday that hubby and I took full advantage of but other than that, nadda.

Bad weather and some unmotivatedness resulted in my missing one run last week and only getting two in. I’m finding that my knees are feeling a bit better but are still pretty stiff by the end. I was definitely feeling it after Saturdays run that took hubby and I out for nearly 6.5km. This is the longest I’ve run since before finding out I was pregnant with Baby O. Yep…it’s been awhile.

Sweaty Mama!

My 5km race is this Saturday. I’m feeling a bit nervous. I know I will finish and I know it will be fun but there are always those little race butterflies that creep in. I think they’re made worse when you have small kids. Thoughts as a mom that work their way into my brain:

“What if O needs to nurse right when the race starts?”

“What if the kids fuss at the sitters and we never get another sitter again?”

“What if I wear the wrong bra and have to hold my boobs for 3.1 miles?”

Not your typical running questions but definitely ones a typical running mama would ask.

All in all, I’m feeling pretty good. The fatigue of being up late with one kid and early with another is taking it’s toll but I find that getting out for those runs helps me stay sane.

My goal for this weekends race is very simple: have fun. Though I do have a goal to finish a 5km distance in under 30 minutes, I’m not ready to meet that goal this week. Instead, the race will serve as my baseline to see where I’m at so I can see how far I can go over the next few months as I prepare to start my half marathon training plan.

You will do fabulous in your run!

They seem to energize me. We don’t get many of those here but we do get some amazing downpours where it’s hard to see more than 50 feet in front of you because of the wall of water. I like what the damp environment does for my skin too.
