Happy Memorial Day to my American fit friends! It’s all work and all play up in Canada today but we’re coming off a long weekend ourselves so we’ll let you have a day as well
This weekend I did two things that I very rarely get to do: My mother-in-law was in town and very eager to watch my boys. So on Saturday morning, we drove to my Sister-in-law’s apartment, dropped the boys off and hubby and I got to go for a run together! We haven’t done this in a veeeeerrrry long time and maybe only twice since before Fit Boy was born over two years ago.
It. Was. Awesome.
I miss having a running buddy to pound the pavement with. We don’t spend a ton of time talking but it’s just nice to have someone there to keep me company. It made the run so much more enjoyable. We always have a friendly competition which adds to the fun and we’re just competitive enough to push a little harder than we would on our own. We even held hands while we walked back to the apartment to get the boys (awwwwwwwwwwww). It could have been very romantic but for the bird that decided to take a shart on my head (ewwwwwwwwwwww). Not quite the story book ending to a run but it added some always welcome humor.
So what was the second thing I did that I rarely get to do? I ran without music. I always run with my iPod because I need music or a podcast to keep me company. Since I had a run buddy, I didn’t need it. It was also nice. I’m thinking that I need to run without music more often to be able to listen to the world around me.
Do you prefer running/working out with a buddy or by yourself?
