Happy Victoria Day to my fellow Canucks! I love long weekends! Even being on maternity leave, I still love them because it means I (hopefully) get an extra day with hubby at home to help with the kids and to do fun stuff together as a family.
Training last week went well. I ran 2 days and on the 3rd day was faced with a dilemma. It was a fairly nice but windy day out. The kids were antsy and I didn’t want to leave them alone with hubby, who had been under the weather all week and busy at work. He was tired, the kids were grumpy and I didn’t feel right about ditching them for 40 minutes to go and run. So my only option was the ditch the workout all together right?
Wrongo!
Remember last week when I talked about how to exercise when you don’t necessarily have support? Well part of my strategy in getting that done is to be respectful of my hubby and his needs too. He needed a bit of quiet time to rest and I needed to get my own fitness wiggles out. So I took 2 year old Fit Boy for a bike ride instead.
Friends of ours generously lent us their double Chariot for the summer and fall as they don’t need it right now and knew we had a need for a double anything to get through the nicer months. Baby O is still too little to go in there but Fit Boy isn’t. So I put his helmet on, buckled him in and off we went on a 11.5km bike ride. I had a great time pulling him behind me. This was only his second time and first long bike ride in the trailer so he was still a bit unsure about the whole thing but he said very timidly at the end that he had had fun. This left hubby at home with only the baby, who is typically quite content to just be held and showered with attention (such vanity in a 3 month old!).
Today we are relaxing as a family and hopefully, I will be out running again at some point today.
How do you incorporate your fitness when your plans start to unravel?

You’re looking great. Hope you have a great week.
Looking good. I am going to try to ride my bike now that is warmer out.
You go girl! I have to admit I let my runs or training take a back seat when my husband has to do something or I can’t get away. I feel guilty leaving my husband at home w/the kids..
You look fantastic!! Great pic of you and Fit Boy in the buggy!
I find that sometimes if I just take my girls and give my hubby some time to himself, we’re ALL happier when we get home! I’m glad you found a way to take yourself and your hubby at the same time!
Sometime you need to go out and do my husband does not get that the kids like to go with me which is good. I am glad you little one enjoyed the ride maybe he will be your partner in the future.
looking great!
Great idea! I have been talking to Nick about getting one of those for his bike!
For us, just going to the YMCA helps. The girls get to play and have fun while Nick and I do our thing.
Way to go! I know how hard it is to make yourself go anyway, and you did. Great job!
Wow! Great job on the bike ride! I just picked up one of those trailers on clearance and I’ve been dying to try it out!!
You look AWESOME! And your right, no reason to give up a work out just because things didn’t necessarily go as planned. Sometimes it’s hard for me to remember that, but my kids could use the exercise too…, I need to remind myself of that more.
Have a great weekend!
Go Stephanie! I love how motivated you are. Did your hubby enjoy the quiet time while you were out?
[...] with my hubby. I’ve been following a training plan almost to the letter (with a slight deviation here and there) and have been slowly progressing. The thing is, that I’ve only run 5km twice [...]
You do look amazing! Your posts always make me rethink something I’ve done during the week. Such as today, it was raining and I used it as an excuse to be a slob all day. Thank you for your inspiration.
I keep forgetting Sea Monkey is big enough to go, now I just need to buy a bike and follow your lead.
Do it!! It’s so much fun and the kids look adorable in their helmets! I can’t wait til Baby O is big enough that I can take both boys out with me.
Haha that’s awesome! Surprised you didn’t think of that earlier. And as you keep having more and more kids you can just continue to add another buggie to tow. But in seriousness it’s good to have a bike day here and there in the midst of all your running. Keep it up!
Thanks! It’s nice to change it up in ways that include the kids too. If we keep having kids, we’ll have quite the convoy going!
