Fast Five Fit Friday

Welcome to another week of Fast Five Fit Fridays on Fit Mom! In it, you’ll be introduced to some awesome Health and Fitness bloggers in the community and find out a few little tidbits about what makes them unique, what they like (or don’t like) about the fitness world and a few little quirks that set them apart from everyone else!

This week, I’m featuring Laurie. Let’s get to know her a bit shall we?!

I am 38 years old and I live in Illinois. I am the Community and Economic Development Director for a local community. I have been married for 13 years. I have one daughter. She is 11. I am a full time student. I will graduate in August with my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. I run…a lot. I run at least 5 days a week and average 35-40 miles a week. 90% of my miles begin at 5:30 a.m. I love starting my days running. I am a better mother, wife, employee, boss, and friend because I run.

Pre-race ritual(s): I love honey. I eat honey before I run. I start stealing (collecting) honey packets for weeks leading up to the race. If I do not have enough honey. I bring an entire bottle.

Biggest fitness pet peeve: I have two pet peeves. My first pet peeve is negative runners. Running is hard. Constant fear of the event we are training to run. The training was the hard part; the race is the reward. My second pet peeve is selfish or self-absorbed runners. I am willing to help, slow down, and encourage any/every runner.

Fitness goal(s) for 2012:I want to be pain free. I want to enjoy the experience. I race my first marathon in 2011; I did not look around and enjoy the experience. I ran a marathon. I am running two marathons in 2012; I want to experience and enjoy the marathons. My 2012 marathons are in Seattle, WA and St. Charles, IL. I am running with my head-up, looking around.

One fitness discipline I’d love to try would be: Rock climbing
