Welcome to another Fast Five Fit Friday on Fit Mom! In it, you’ll be introduced to some awesome Health and Fitness bloggers in the community and find out a few little tidbits about what makes them unique, what they like (or don’t like) about the fitness world and a few little quirks that set them apart from everyone else!
My name is Steph. I have always loved food. Coming from a family whose lives revolve around it, it was inevitable. Parties weren’t about having fun, they were about having food… and lots of it. Unfortunately, 32 years later, food has become less of a “joy” and more of a burden. A few years ago I picked up a little habit called running. Multiple 5ks, a 15k and two sprint triathlons later, I’m working my way towards a healthy lifestyle! I’ve started Kitchen Kilometers as a way to talk about my outdoor adventures and share healthy variations of my all time favorite recipes. When I’m not blogging, baking or biking, I’m a middle school science teacher. I’m in love with an amazing guy (taste tester and running buddy). We have a little vacuum cleaner (pup) named Claire and a bratty catty named George.
I never workout without my: Brooks running shoes. I call them the little rocking chairs for my feet. Amazing!
My biggest fitness goal for 2012 is: to sign up for my first half marathon. I know that may not seem like a goal, but just the act of registering for a big race can be the most challenging part for us rookies! (I understand and say “hear, hear!” to that!)
Biggest fitness accomplishment to date: I completed my first 15k race and lived to tell the tale. (My legs and brain have finally forgiven me.)
Biggest surprise about adapting a healthy lifestyly? When I got into triathlons, I was so surprised to see just how supportive the triathlon community is. Doing your first tri is scary enough as it is, but hearing those words of motivation and cheers from the “pros” meant so much.
Biggest Inspiration? A while back I saw a video that Ben, from Ben Does Life created about his own fitness journey. The combination of the Coldplay song plus his awesome story makes me get all weepy and mushy inside.
