After last week’s tumble off the confidence wagon, I’m happy to say that all is well. I’m feeling more like myself and have started running regularly again.
Being able to get out for some runs has been such a wonderful boost. Not only because it’s so nice to get out and pound the pavement again after such a long break but because it is time to myself, even if it’s only 20 minutes. I have sorely missed those fleeting moments of me-time over the last 2 months. True to my word, I am starting slow by doing a couch to 10k program that I found online. It starts nice and slow and ups the intensity around week 6 or 7. I’m really excited to see what this mother of 2 is made of!
Here’s a break down of my first 4 runs:
Run 1: Run 1 minute, Walk 2 minutes, repeat 8 times. Total distance: 3.22km
Run 2: Run 1 minute, Walk 2 minutes, repeat 6 times. Total distance: 2.44km
Run 3: Run 1 minute, Walk 2 minutes, repeat 7 times. Total distance: 2.96km
Run 4: Run 2 minutes, Walk 2 minutes, repeat 7 times. Total distance: 4.07km (I was beat after this one!)
I’ll be going for Run 5 later today and I can’t wait! I am noticing that my knees are bothering me already so I’m hoping that as I incorporate more cross training into my routine and strengthen my legs, that will ease up a bit. I will also be investing in a foam roller as soon as possible because I’ve heard of the wonders they do for the aches and pains.
For now, running is all I’m going to be focusing on, outside of my core work (I am really noticing how my weakened core affects my running!). I really want to ease back in to avoid injury and getting sick from trying to do too much, too soon. Over the coming weeks, I will be adding in strength training days (I have some BIG ambitions for getting some serious definition in the coming year. Any trainers out there with some advice, please don’t be shy!). If I can get my parents to watch the boys for an hour or so once a week, I also want to head back to the pool.
I am so stoked to get my FitFluential on baby!
