Getting Back into the Game

Tomorrow could, and likely, will be *the* day when I’m cleared for exercise again. Namely, to start running. Baby O will be 8 weeks on Sunday so to say this is long overdue is an understatement.

Happy Running Fit Mom many moons ago

I’m finalizing my running plan this week (or procrastinating a bit because as much as I’m excited to lace up, I also realize that I haven’t run a step since my car accident back in October when I was about 25 weeks pregnant. It’s going to be painful, humbling and a bit scary. Thankfully, I was never a fast runner to begin with (my goal has always been to be able to run a 10-minute mile. Trust me…I’m slow but that’s a topic of conversation for another day), so my expectations are fairly realistic. I expect my first runs to be hard. I expect them to hurt. I expect them to be eye-opening.

And right now, I expect them to be boring.

I haven’t upgrade my workout gear in YEARS! (remember this lovely image??). I also haven’t added any music to my iPod in about a year and as I discovered when I took Baby O for a long walk last week, not only are my tunes in need of updating, so are my earphones, workout gear, socks, bras, you name it.

If What Not to Wear did a show dedicated to fits in desperate need of new workout clothes, I would be atop the list. Actually, my wardrobe in general is pretty much a fashion upchuck but again…digressing…)

This is where you guys come in handy to help me. I need you to sound off below with any of the following:

  • What are your current go-to tunes when you work out?
  • What are you must-have items/brands
  • What earphones do you recommend. Keep in mind, mine tend to always fall out of my ears and/or be really uncomfortable when worn for any length of time.

What advice do you have for someone returning to exercise after a long hiatus.

I like the Sony Sweet Little Buds — three sizes packaged together so you can find the right fit! (comfortable and stay put) Good luck!

Congrats on getting back into running! I don’t run with music, so I can’t help you there… generally all I really need is my Garmin, but I’d say leave the watch at home for a few weeks and just run for the feel of it, and enjoy getting out alone!

I went through 4 types of earphones before finding the right ones! They always fell out or just wouldn’t stay put. I ended up getting the Adidas PMX680 sports! I love them!!! They never fall out :)

  4. Yay!! I’m so excited for you. That’s going to be some nice mommy free time even if it’s humbling in the beginning. It will still rock.

I have pioneer ear buds that are water resistant and they are awesome. I’m same as you though, old workout gear, I did just splurge on some new running tights from the lulu store (and they rock) but otherwise it’s same old same old around here.

I have my eye on a pair of lulu running crops that I just might have to invest in. Otherwise, I will likely wear my old stinky workout gear until it either disintegrates or gets up and throws itself out :)

Hi! I just found your blog while hunting for recommendations for a double jogging stroller. Do you have a good one? My InStep Safari keeps getting flat tires.

For workout gear, I highly recommend the Fiona bra by Moving Comfort. It adjusts with Velcro in the front which makes it work as a nursing bra! I also recently got Vibram Five Fingers shoes and a running skirt from Skirt Sports. I’d highly recommend them both, especially the shoes. :)

I’m borrowing a Chariot from some friends but have to wait until my littlest is older before I can load both boys into it. Otherwise, I have a Safety 1st single jogger that I use with my oldest. I got it at a garage sale and I’ve been really happy with it. Very sturdy an plows through pretty much anything.

Thanks for the gear recommendations! I”ll definitely be checking out that bra! Anything to make it easier to workout and nurse!
