Body After Baby: Nutrition Woes

It never fails that after a certain amount of time, the lack of sleep and constant access to my pantry has been thinking about food. All. The. Time. I am a remorseless eating machine who is starting to develop a conscious.

Exercising and staying active has never been much of an issue for me. Sure I get unmotivated, distracted and want to just sloth out on the couch for days on end but I like working out. I enjoy it, in spite of the challenges it sometimes poses in my life.

Nutrition on the other hand is my pitfall. Every. Single. Time. I love to eat. So much so that it’s has been an issue for me in the past. I love junk foods. Chips, chocolate, ice cream and pastries are my downfall. I can’t stay away, and I can’t say no to them. I certainly can’t exercise portion control when around them. I do my best to keep them out of the house but every now and then, I can’t resist and I bring them into my house. And then my hubby and I turn into little piggies and eat every last morsel.

Not. Cool.

This last week was a perfect example of that. I brought home some “treats” from the store and old habits came out and as I’m typing this post up, everything has already been eaten. Boo.

I love being a breastfeeding mama and I wouldn’t trade it for anything but I have to say, the appetite that comes with it is not fun. To my credit I am, for the most part, sticking to the 80/20 principle with clean eating, lots of fruits and veggies and lots of water to keep me healthy, baby healthy and everyone happy. It’s much harder to stick to this plan when your appetite is out of control (I mean really…how much quinoa and grilled fish can one eat before exploding? I may soon find out).

To combat the munchies, I’ve loaded up my fridge with lots of good foods to snack on this week. Thankfully, Baby O provides the best excuse in the world to not ride the junk food train for too long.

What are your go-to super foods that taste great and fill you up?

  1. I love Greek yogurt with granola and chia seeds in the afternoon! I know all about the breastfeeding munchies … they’re no joke! Hang in there lady.

I have the same struggles. I am good with the exercise, but I think about food ALL THE TIME. I also make bad choices. When I was nursing, my appetite was through the roof!

I think we’re the same person! I have a four month old and I’m nursing AND staying active so all I do is eat! I also love junk food so it’s been a real struggle for me to get my body back, too. Keep up the great work, mama!
