Motivation Monday: Gearing up for Game Day

Happy Monday! Today marks the first day of my maternity leave. Here in the Great White North, we are very fortunate to get a whopping entire year off to spend bonding, loving and raising our babies. I wouldn’t trade any of those days for the world (someone please remind me of this in a few weeks when I’m crying from lack of sleep, overwhelmed with diapers and trying to cope with a 2 year old who thinks his word is the be all and end all of all civilization).

Now comes the really hard part: Waiting for this baby to be born, and then working toward getting back into pre-baby shape without the use of a gym. For those who don’t know, my gym is located at work. It’s awesome as anything because it’s accessible any time of the day and I don’t have to go outside to get there. I simply leave my desk, walk 5 minutes and I’m there. It’s wonderful. The downside is that if you go on leave for any reason, your membership gets put on hold until you return to work. I’ve looked in my area for other options but there are non that offer child care so I will be using my home to meet my fitness needs. Thankfully, once the weather warms up, I will be able to take my workouts outside. So if you see a mom at the park with her kids doing jump squats and walking lunges, come say hi :)

This first week of office-freedom is going to be filled with a trip to buy cloth diapers and a whole latta cooking, chopping and freezing meals to pull out in a pinch over the next few weeks. I could use your input! What are some of your favorite healthy recipes that are easy to prepare and freeze well? Hit me up in the comments!

  1. Yay for maternity leave!! When I was preparing for #3′s arrival I did some freezer meals, but I ended up PURCHASING bulk freezer meals already made from CostCo.

Rachel_L would be a fantastic person to hit up as when she had baby #3 she did a lot of freezer prep! :)

I wish we also had a year for bonding. That time is so special. Good luck with EVERYTHING and know that we are thinking of you. Can’t wait for baby pics!

  4. I like making Italian dishes to freeze: like ziti or lasagna are pretty easy and you can make them super healthy.

Good luck with the birth and adjustments that come afterwards :)

Yay for maternity leave! I’m super jealous that you get a whole year off, I actually ended up leaving my job that I loved after my son was born because 4 months just wasn’t long enough. I’m sure you will do great at home! Have a great week & get that baby out soon!!!

  6. OMG – i am so excited for you. Now nesting can be your full time job (at least for a month) – Gotta love “Canadia” with long maternity leave

I love canadian maternity leave. Wish i lived there. You can get back in shape after baby is born. You look awesome as it is now and i love your hazing workouts. Cant wait to see pics of your bundle of joy. Have a great week.

  8. You’re going to rock this birth! I can’t wait to see pics of the baby!

  9. I’ve got some adorable baby gifts just waiting for you on my desk & tons of pink clothes if you are in a Skype shopping mood after….um yes my fingers are still crossed for pink.
It’s sad you can’t use the gym during maternity leave, but heck a year off would be sweet. I love that you’ll have this time to bond and get the hang of things.
    Good luck!

  10. Awe, it’s almost baby time! Outdoor workouts are by far my favorite. I like to bring my TRX to the park and set it up, the kids play and I get my workout in.

  11. I made the following and froze:
    chicken pot pies
    lasagna rolls
    turkey meatloaf
    taco soup
    chili

BUT my friend Maria did an EPIC post on her delicious and nutritious freezer meals: http://alifetobraggabout.blogspot.com/2011/12/long-awaited-epic-freezer-meal-post.html

  12. Miz says:

so so so excited for you.
I wish I come stop by, share a meal and chat you through your first week :)

  13. Oh I cannot wait until it is baby time!!! Unfortunately, I have no advice on the freezing of meals because I was way too unorganized to think of something like that with my kids.
