Truth be told, I did pretty good this pregnancy. Last pregnancy…well not so much. And not just because I gained nearly double the weight as I have to this point, but because I never had a plan in place, proper goals in mind or even a desire to think ahead and how I could prepare myself for post-partum weight loss and shape up. I didn’t think about exercise, nutrition wasn’t even on the radar and though I did end up incorporating both of these into my life, it was mostly be the seat of my pants.
Not this time I declare!!
I have a plan! Well, a quasi-plan. Because you really never know what’s going to happen in life right? And as I’m about to be outnumbered by children who are a) totally dependent on me and b) smarter than me (shhhh…don’t tell!) I know that flexibility will play a huge role in the coming months. What I can control is my nutrition. I won’t be cleared for exercise for at least 4-6 weeks after baby comes and at 37 weeks I can barely get up the stairs some days so it’s a pretty safe bet that I will be regaining my body through what I’m fueling it before I regain it by how I move it.
37 Weeks Pregnant
So how do I plan to do it?
Quite simply actually. Grilled lean meats (chicken and fish), lots of vegetables (dark greens are my fav!) and whole grains (quinoa, wheat berries). My aim is to eat as little out of a can or package as I can. When I was losing the weight after Fit Boy was born, my fear was that I’d become bored with the foods and that they wouldn’t fill me up. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Not only was I able to vary the spices I added to my foods, but because I was sticking to whole foods, as opposed to processed which provide more empty calories than nutrients, I was satisfied at the end of my meal and not raiding the pantry for a quick snack an hour later.
And water…lots and lots and lots and lots of water. That part was easy. As a breast-feeding mom I was always thirsty and water was the only thing I wanted to drink (well…and coffee but that goes without saying).
This is the plan I have going into the final chapter of this pregnancy and I am preparing my meals in advance with this in mind. You can follow my progress through my Body after Baby series which will kick off once baby actually decides to leave my body.
Stay Tuned!

Having a plan always helps me to reach goals! You look great and I look forward to following your journey!
I think you have a good, solid plan. I love that cute shirt you are wearing, I have seen them around before and I want one when I get pregnant!
Good luck getting that pre baby body back! A GREAT solid plan set up.
Sounds like you have a plan! I had tons of individual portions of meat, cooked and frozen. It made it so easy to get the protein I needed for breastfeeding! That and oatmeal pretty much got me through the first few months.
Great plan! Water is something I always need to remember!
Pretty good? You look amazing! I love how you’re focusing on whole foods – that’ll be helpful in weight loss and getting the nutrition you and your little one need those first few months. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Sounds like you know just what to do to get your body back!
Also? You looked fabulous at 37 weeks!!
Wow girl – you are ALL BELLY! You look amazing.
This sounds like a fantastic plan, I feel you’ll be back in shape in no time! Best of luck come baby day!
You already look great, so I’m sure it won’t be very difficult for you. Good luck!!
I think finding a plan that can lead to consistency is the biggest key. I have no doubt you will be consistent and make great progress!
Sounds like a fantastic plan!! I was SO amazed at how thirsty I constantly was – and how much I was sweating!! LOL. Looking forward to following your journey =)
